Many of us hope that by purchasing anything privately, we will get a better price.
Unfortunately for those who have in some cases done this with a car, they realize later that perhaps this was not the best way to buy - with things that were hidden. Penny wise, pound stupid is the saying.
As Estate agents, we are highly trained, especially in property law, to ensure all parties are protected. We also have to carry a Fidelity Fund certificate (which allows the public to have recourse in the event of proven fraud). So why would you want to buy privately when you may not know all your rights, or even if the amount you are paying is justified. There is a reason that this industry is turning into a professional industry in the eyes of the law - so that the public can have the freedom and protection when looking for a home or an investment. As in all industries, there may be some people that make you feel uncomfortable with, no matter what you are buying - but then you have the right to use someone else!
